What is the Gift a Jacket Initiative?
The Gift a Jacket Initiative provides distinctive blue reflective jackets free of cost to blind and visually impaired people. The gear helps sighted people recognise the wearer and offer respectful assistance; it does not improve or restore vision.
Why are reflective jackets important for blind and visually impaired individuals?
Reflective elements can increase conspicuity when light reaches them, while the consistent FRST blue identity helps the public recognise that the wearer may be blind or visually impaired. The gear is one layer of recognition and does not guarantee safety or accident prevention.
What makes these jackets different from regular safety vests?
FRST garments combine a distinctive blue identity, reflective elements and an inclusive symbol. Together these features create a consistent public-recognition signal designed specifically for blind and visually impaired wearers.
How does FRST Foundation decide who receives a jacket?
FRST Foundation works with disability organisations, schools, community partners and direct applicants. Decisions consider documented need, location, garment availability, local coordination and due diligence—not a promise that every applicant can be served immediately.
Can individuals apply directly to receive a jacket?
Yes. Individuals may contact FRST Foundation or a participating local organisation. The team reviews the request, location, fit and available stock before confirming support, and no one should pay a recipient fee for Foundation-funded gear.
How can I gift a jacket?
Use the secure Donate page to support free jackets and raincoats. You can give personally, sponsor a larger quantity or discuss a documented distribution with the Foundation. Eligible Indian donations receive an 80G receipt.
Can I add my company logo to the jackets if I order in bulk?
Corporate branding may be discussed for suitable sponsored quantities, provided the FRST recognition identity, recipient dignity and garment function remain clear. Contact foundation@frst.co.in for a project plan rather than treating it as a commercial bulk order.
Does FRST safety gear improve or restore vision?
No. FRST safety gear does not improve, restore or treat vision. It is a public-recognition signal designed to help sighted people identify that the wearer may be blind or visually impaired and respond respectfully.
What should a sighted person do when they see FRST blue?
Notice, recognise, understand and ask. Slow down or give space if needed, introduce yourself, ask whether help is wanted, and follow the person’s instructions. Do not grab, push or assume.
Does reflective gear guarantee safety or prevent accidents?
No. Reflective and distinctive gear can support visibility and recognition, but it cannot guarantee safety, prevent every accident or replace accessible infrastructure, responsible road behaviour and ask-first human support.
How does FRST Foundation verify its distributions and impact?
As of 19 July 2026, FRST Foundation has 65 documented initiatives and at least 3,315 people reached with free recognition gear. Each garment in this documented total corresponds to one recipient, based on Foundation distribution records and third-party acknowledgements where available. Dated evidence is published on the Transparency & Reports page.
Are donations to FRST Foundation eligible for an 80G tax deduction?
Eligible donations to FRST Foundation may qualify for an 80G deduction under applicable Indian tax rules. Donors should provide the details needed for the receipt and consult a tax adviser for their own eligibility. Email foundation@frst.co.in for receipt support.
How do reflective jackets help in crowded public transport?
In crowded public transport, the consistent FRST blue design can help nearby sighted people recognise that the wearer may be blind or visually impaired. Recognition can prompt people to give space, communicate clearly and ask before helping. The garment does not guarantee protection from crowd-related harm.
How do the jackets aid during emergencies?
Distinctive blue identity and reflective elements may help nearby people notice and recognise the wearer where visibility permits. In an emergency, responders should still communicate directly, ask what assistance is needed and follow official evacuation procedures. The gear is not a substitute for accessible emergency planning and does not guarantee priority or rescue.
How does this initiative prevent further hardships for blind individuals?
The initiative does not claim to prevent accidents or hardship. Its practical role is to close a recognition gap: give sighted people a clearer cue, encourage ask-first assistance, and help blind and visually impaired wearers feel recognised. Wider safety still depends on accessible infrastructure and responsible public behaviour.
Can I sponsor jackets for a specific community or organization?
Yes. Donors may suggest a community or organisation. FRST Foundation confirms the final recipient group after due diligence, consent, local coordination, documented need and available resources so the work remains fair and verifiable. Contact the Foundation before donating if the location matters to you.
Can recipients provide feedback on the jackets?
Yes. Recipients, families and partner organisations can share feedback through the website, phone, email or event team. Practical feedback on fit, comfort, recognition and distribution helps the Foundation improve future work.
How do I know my contribution made a difference?
FRST Foundation publishes legal and certification documents, dated acknowledgements, photographs, reports and initiative updates through its Transparency & Reports page and official channels. Completed work is kept separate from scheduled activity.
Can I personalize a jacket before gifting it?
The core blue recognition identity and safety features remain standard so the public can learn a consistent signal. Sponsor branding and dedication messages may be considered without compromising the design, dignity or purpose of the garment.
Are the jackets suitable for all age groups?
Garments are produced in multiple sizes for children and adults, subject to current stock and the requirements confirmed with recipients or partner institutions. Fit and comfort should be checked during distribution wherever possible.
How can companies get involved in the initiative?
Companies can fund garments, sponsor a documented distribution, support awareness, involve employees in appropriate volunteer roles and share the meaning of FRST blue. Start with the community, location, quantity, season and reporting needs.
How does this initiative align with corporate social responsibility goals?
The initiative can support a company’s disability-inclusion and community-engagement goals through practical delivery and documented outputs. FRST Foundation has CSR-1 registration CSR00111523, but every company should complete its own legal and CSR eligibility review.
What is FRST Foundation's long-term goal with this initiative?
The long-term goal is for FRST blue to become a widely understood recognition signal: sighted people notice, recognise, understand and ask before helping. Growth will be measured through documented distributions, responsible partnerships and public education.
Will FRST Foundation expand this program to other groups?
FRST Foundation’s present programme focus is blind and visually impaired people. The Foundation may collaborate on broader inclusion work when it fits its objects and capacity, but it does not currently claim to serve every disability or all people in need.
