FRST Foundation’s blue reflective jackets and raincoats begin with one practical idea: a sighted person can offer better support when they first recognise that someone nearby may be blind or visually impaired.
The garments do not improve vision. They do not make anyone “accident-proof,” and they do not replace a white cane, guide dog, accessible infrastructure or responsible road behaviour. They are a visible recognition signal designed to help the public notice, understand and ask before helping.
The reflective jacket
The jacket is lightweight and designed for everyday public environments. Its distinctive FRST blue identity and reflective elements can make the wearer more conspicuous when light reaches the material. More importantly, a consistent signal can help people learn what the colour represents.
The reflective raincoat
The raincoat combines weather protection with the same recognition-first identity. Monsoon conditions can make public spaces noisier, more crowded and harder to navigate. A raincoat helps protect the wearer and provides a signal that nearby sighted people can recognise.
What should happen after recognition?
- Notice the blue reflective garment.
- Recognise that the wearer may be blind or visually impaired.
- Give space and avoid sudden grabbing or steering.
- Introduce yourself and ask whether help is wanted.
- Follow the person’s answer, including when the answer is no.
Respectful help protects independence. The garment is not permission to touch someone; it is a reason to pay attention and communicate.
Documented distribution, not inflated promises
Through 19 July 2026, FRST Foundation documented 65 initiatives—more than three every month on average since the first documented initiative on 19 October 2024. Independently acknowledged distributions have reached at least 3,315 people with free recognition gear. The supporting partner records are available through our Transparency & Reports page.
These outputs do not prove that every danger was prevented. They show that free recognition gear reached people through documented initiatives. We believe donors should be told both the value and the limits of an intervention.
Help more people recognise FRST blue
A donation can help fund free gear. A company can sponsor a documented distribution. A volunteer or advocate can teach others what the signal means. Each action strengthens the same public habit: notice, recognise, understand and ask.
